CNet PRO 3.05C 10-February-1994
This release consists primarily of fixes for reported bugs. There are
several new and important features, however.
Bugs reported and removed:
==========================
. Pfiles were unable to turn off word wrapping or More?
. A problem with "short dates" in FIDO messages was fixed. The
Fido specs dictate a 20 character date field. Some mailers
(eg DLG) produce 16 or 18 character dates.
. CNet didn't ask for a subject when feedback was routed to the
sysop's mailbox.
. After using the "local mode" pull down menu option, the history
buffer (cursor up and down) was not cleared.
. In Join, after receiving an OLM, the next text was indented.
. When quoting in the editor, changing the response number, and
quoting again, CNet would read from the "new" response number
even when you asked for the original.
. Uploading to a direct exchange subboard would result in a GURU
crash (sometimes).
. Toss AREAFIX response messages contained incorrect formatting,
resulting in "blank" messages on the reader side.
. "Browse" in local mode used the screen-height as reported by ET
instead of the auto-calculated screen height.
. The subboard MOVE command allowed sub-operators to see ALL
subboards regardless of access.
. Carrier was not checked during draw-ed play-back. A potential
crash problem was also removed with draw-ed.
. If BBS was ran too soon after control was ran, a GURU was
encountered when BBS was shut down.
. "No MCI" subboards now strip MCI from signatures.
. A crash problem with network aliases was resolved.
. If a user connected with CallerID, but did not logon to the BBS,
the sysop would inherit the user's phone number if he did a TAB
logon.
. IUUMAIL did not strip MCI from titles, to, or from fields.
. It was possible to launch multiple instances of TOSS.
. Setting access restrictions on BBSMENU commands failed to reset
the command for the "unknown command" warning.
. Users were allowed to MV mail which was already received.
. TermLink's input field was too small for 115,200 baud.
. Zone gate routed messages did not contain the gate's address
in the header.
. ANSI scrolling did not work from mail read.
. After using "local mode" and changing the screen size or colors,
local mode was ghosted.
. After a user used the EP command to change his DATA phone number,
the user "pointers" became corrupted.
. User pointers may have become corrupted or corrupt other memory
if the maximum number of user accounts was reached.
. When killing a VOTE topic, the subdirectory of the vote item was
not killed.
. IUUNEWS did not import new messages unless there were two or more.
. The spelling checker had trouble with lines beginning with non-
alphabetic characters.
. It was possible to recurse several commands which should not
have been recursable.
. From feedback at logoff, using the "WHO" bbs command would only
display the WHO header.
. From feedback at re-logon, using ANY bbs command would cancel the
re-logon, and simply log you off.
. On the CONFIG "events..." screen, the TAB key would not move
through the fields in order.
. The .E and .K line editor commands would not accept '.' at the
first column.
. The "G" command from mail-read would only accept groups 0-23.
. A bug was removed with the replacement of mispelled words with
other mispelled words.
. When editing mail using the MV command, and using MCI read
(or Preview) header information from other messages was sometimes
shown.
Other bugs reported:
====================
. When sending mail to one network, another network's tag lines
and address were used instead. This was caused by overlapping
ZONES in the CONFIG "Fido-Net..." screen. Make sure each domain's
set of ZONES do not intersect.
. After selecting files, SS reports different descriptions. The
download counters of different items are incremented. Reply
from mail is unable to locate an item. Download notification
mail had the wrong filename or filesize. These are all related,
and are caused when the subboard "last item" counter (on the EL
screen) becomes re-set to a lower value than was previously used.
This could be caused by keeping SYSDATA: in RAM:, for example,
and having the system GURU or reset before saving it to disk. It
could also occur if you must RESTORE SYSDATA: from a backup, and
have NEWER messages posted. The subboard RR command has been
changed to RECOGNIZE duplicate item numbers, and to correct this
problem.
. When changing a user's access group and expiration date at the
same time, the expiration date change is lost. This occurs because
CNet first detects the change in access group, and sets the user's
expiration date to match the new group's expiration date default.
There is no fix for this conflict at this time.
. CNet will not recognize network aliases when using the MAIL
command. This is because there is a typo in the manual. You
must follow the network alias with a "@" symbol. MAIL KEN@
will first search your network aliases for KEN.
. If you cover the "CNet License" window with another, and then
reveal it, the information is "gone." CNet does not have time to
respond to window update requests while it is busy loading your
configuration files. If you want to read it, leave the window
where it is.
New Features:
=============
. "Trapwake" has been renamed to "bbswake." In addition, a third
method for answering FidoNet calls has been added. CNet itself
is now capable of detecting FidoNet calls and transferring control
to TrapDoor, instead of the other way around. Two new fields
found on the CONFIG "modems..." screen are provided to enable and
control this feature. The first field, "trap hours" determines
the hours during which a port will accept FidoNet calls. The second
field "mail hours" determines the hours during which CNet will
accept FidoNet calls EXCLUSIVELY. Use the standard CNet RANGE
convention for these fields (0-23, for example, denotes the
entire 24 hour day). Depending on how you set these fields, one
of four conditions may exist for a caller:
Neither a trap hour, nor a mail hour. CNet will behave exactly
like 3.04. "Press RETURN to enter the BBS."
A trap hour, but not a mail hour. CNet will prompt the user with
"Press ESC or / twice to enter the BBS." Upon doing so, the user
may enter the BBS as expected. If, however, CNet detects EMSI,
TSYNC, or YOOHOO characters, CNet will run a script according to
line 231 of BBSTEXT. By default, it will execute S:TRAP-SEQUENCEx,
where 'x' is the current PORT number. For example, on port 1,
CNet will attempt to execute S:TRAP-SEQUENCE1. This file should
run your TrapDoor in "answer immediate" mode, and then perform
your "after session" routines.
A trap hour, AND a mail hour. CNet will inform the user the port
is accepting FidoNet calls only, wait one minute, and then clear
the line. If the caller is a FidoNet mailer, S:TRAP-SEQUENCEx
will be executed.
A mail hour, but not a trap hour. This may seem like the least
useful combination, but it CAN be useful. The user will receive
the note about this being a FidoNet mail hour only, and will be
IMMEDIATELY disconnected. May be useful for informing users that
a particular port is just DOWN.
. All CNet executables now automatically allocate their minimum
stack sizes. Yes, you heard it right! It is now SAFE to
"run control" with a stack size of 4000. CNet will take care of
the necessary details. What you now have to be concerned about is
NON-CNet executables. Programs like LHA, ZOO, etc., if they
themselves do not do automatic stack allocation, they obtain their
default stack size from the CLI stack size with which CNet was
ran. You also have to be concerned about C program-file games
and other doors. Do these programs have minimum stack sizes?
If so, it might be wise to create scripts containing STACK
commands which you run instead of the pfiles themselves. A
future version of CNet may provide an automated way of doing this,
where the stack size is specified on the "AT" screen.
. When using QWK to yank carbon-copied mail, a line is now added
informing the user from which subboard the message came.
. A new privilege flag controls "BROADCAST" OLM's. You will want to
set this as necessary from the EG screen and then TRANSPOSE users.
. QWK now uses "All" when a message isn't addressed to any particular
user. This prevents your mail-reader from showing blank lines.
. The new user program prompts users to use the visual editor as
their default editor (only if they have selected to use ANSI).
. When CNet sends modem commands, it now inserts a short pause
between each character. In addition, the special characters
~ and ` may be used to insert a 0.5 second pause and a carriage
return, respectively.
. CNet's terminal now responds with CPR (the ANSI cursor position)
when it receives ESC[6n. This is often used to auto-detect ANSI
terminals. The term now also supports 115200 baud.
. .RSP packets are now imported along with .PKT packets from TOSS.
. TOSS now tosses one packet at a time, instead of all packets
simultaneously. This provides more SECURE saves, and uses less
RAM.
. If you use MCI in subboard titles, YANK will now the MCI from
them.
